About

Welcome to my food blog! I’m Anyka and I am so excited to share my favorite vegan recipes with all of you! I have been vegan since 2018 and it has been an amazing journey. Since most restaurants don’t offer a variety of vegan options, I often had to cook for myself. This is how my passion for vegan recipes began. I had to get creative and got a lot of inspiration from watching YouTube videos, reading food blogs, and finding recipes on Instagram and Pinterest. I took what I learned from there and made these recipes my own. Through trial and error, I eventually got the hang of it and started to cook recipes with my own special spin. I also worked at a restaurant that helped me learn proper knife skills and safe food procedures in a kitchen. I began to love the food industry and it made me realize I  potentially want to open a vegan restaurant of my own in the near future. The best way to fuel this passion of mine is by starting a food blog that can help me work on my recipes. I can also figure out what type of food I would like to be, on my ideal restaurant menu.

Side note: I am Filipino and I would love to incorporate some vegan Filipino dishes into my blog!

I want to create a community and share my love of food with you all. Food is a universal way to connect and I am grateful that you are welcoming my recipes into your home wherever you may be! I can’t wait to hear your feedback and have you as my supporter.

I know there are many other talented and amazing food bloggers out there, but not one is the same as me or you. I may create similar dishes as other food bloggers but I can also introduce you to new flavors and fun!

If you are a visual learner I am trying to post some of my recipes on YouTube! I am so excited to meet you all! If you want to know a little more about why I am vegan, read on 🙂

Why am I vegan?

I went vegan because I learned how animals were treated and exploited for products. Ever since then I started to find out how it can also benefit our health and the environment. If you would like to know more about this, you can watch the documentaries Cowspiracy (environment), The Game Changers (health), and Earthlings (ethics). If you’re curious, awesome, keep that up and educate yourself more on veganism. If you plan to switch to a vegan diet, I suggest downloading Cronometer an app ( available in Google Fit and Apple Store), to make sure you’re eating the most optimal foods as possible to thrive on a plant-based diet.

Believe it or not, I was that person who said “I would never be vegan!”

Never say never right?

As someone who went from eating meat, to pescatarian, to vegetarian, it took me a few months to realize that I wanted to go vegan. As I educated myself through documentaries and videos on YouTube I saw how animals were treated and that really did a number on me. I transitioned to a vegan lifestyle once I found out what was happening to animals and how it has a negative impact to the environment and for my health. I could no longer ignore what was happening and made the switch.

After a few months of being vegan, I started to do animal rights outreach. These are groups that focuses on the way animals are treated and promotes veganism through peace and constructive conversation. I am passionate about planting seeds into peoples minds to think outside of what society says is right. Living in a world with adversity, we get lost in the norm of things. I think that we are sometimes disconnected to what is happening around the world, and we take part in unethical actions. We sometimes aren’t aware of this because of false advertising. Many of us see things that are disguised with information that is often misleading. Like commercials showing happy cows for a milk advertisement, while this is not the truth. Choosing to be vegan was probably the best decision I have made and I am loving every second of it!

The other passions I have adapted into my lifestyle:

My sister was the one who influenced me to be vegan. She was so passionate about it, it made me think outside of my perspective and made me rethink how I should live. I continued to explore sustainable and ethical living, zero waste, and minimalism. I try to live by these personal principles as much as possible, but no one is perfect. “We don’t need a handful of people doing zero waste perfectly. We need millions of people doing it imperfectly.” – Anne Marie Bonneau, Zero Waste Chef. My sister has been a role model to me and has influenced me.

My mom passed away when she was 53-years-old from breast cancer. While I am vegan for the animals, I am plant-based for my health, especially knowing the diseases that run in my family like:

  • Breast Cancer
  • Heart disease
  • Diabetes
  • High blood pressure
  • High cholesterol
  • Gout

I want to do whatever I can to stay healthy and strong. While genes can pass down what disease you are more prone to get, we need to acknowledge that our way of eating is what is passed down therefore creating disease in our bodies. Changing the way we eat now as a preventative rather than waiting until we get sick is something that we should start considering. I have the ability to choose to live a healthy, long life through my food choices. Just think about it, whatever we put into our body whether we smoke, eat junk food, or don’t eat enough calories, will affect the body in a negative way. “You are what you eat.”

“Let food be thy medicine, and medicine be thy food”

– Hippocrates

Why make a food blog? What will be the purpose?

I want to do my part and make a difference by sharing vegan meals . I want to show that people are capable of making plant-based food. There are so many magnificent things out there but not many of us have the time or willingness to fulfill. It is time to make a shift in our lives, to new encounters with food!

I got some vegan puns for you!

Lettuce turnip in our kitchen and carrot about the world, our health, and the animals.

This is your veganning of a fresh start! Sorry I am being soy cheezy!
